Dragon Quest True Best Equipment Guide

So, I want to make a clear and concise guide for any players who recently picked up Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age and Have finally entered the Post Game or for people who have already played the game and just want to make sure they have the best gear. If I make any mistakes, please let me know!
First, lets start with the Accessories for each character: The best accessory in the game Hands Down is the Catholicon Ring. 2 For each character ensures you will not have to deal with ill effects such as sleep or confusion. This means you will need 16 gold bars, 160 perfect panacea, 32 royal rubies, and 48 Red Wood … Goodluck! You can craft this ring through the book Kings of the Rings, found in a chest in the Disciple's Trial - Cruel Crypt

Some Key books you will need for forging (a lot of weapons require these; I usually refer to these when I say forging):
Hero's Book of Basic Weapons, is found in the Tower of Lost Time.
A Hero's Book of Better Weapons , found in the Disciple's Trial - Eerie Valley
A Hero's Book of Brilliant Weapons, found by getting all wishes from Drustan.
Big Hitters of the Battlefield, found in the Luminary's Trial - Citadel Of Spite
Making Things with Metal Kings, obtainable after turning in 110 mini medals

Note: u/n00bavenger brought up a great point about armor. For a lot of characters, Exotoga and Seraph's Robe can be better than some of the armor I have listed. Its your choice but some of these can be better or worse than the armor listed below.

These will help you get a majority of the best gear. If a item is listed with no item location, presume you can get it from the above books.
First, lets start with the Hero.
Hero
Weapons: I cant really recommend anything as all are great, but dual wielding is good for damage and shield is good for defense. Your choice.
Gear:

Erik
Weapons: I would recommend daggers for their status effects, but its your choice.
Gear:

Veronica
Weapons: I would recommend Heavy Wands
Gear:

Serena
Weapons: I would recommend Wand + shield
Gear:

Sylvando
Weapons (based on charm): Primarily whatever gives you the most charm as those are the abilities you will use most
Gear

Rab
Weapons: Wands are highly recommended
Gear:
Jade
Weapons: Spears are preferred
Gear: (In the switch version, there is a gear that makes you literally invincible, so I will list the best gear and the kinda cheaty gear.)

Eight (Hendrik)
Weapons: Anything works, but I prefer Axe and shield
Gear:

Finally, For item farming, the best characters with accessories and gear are:
Erik: Accessories are Pirate King's Pendant and Bunny tail. The best armor for him is the Vest for Success
Jade: Two bunny tails and Uniforme Chic de l'Académie
Veronica: Two bunny tails and Uniforme Chic de l'Académie
Serena: Two bunny tails and Uniforme Chic de l'Académie
The Bunny Tails can be stolen/dropped by Bunicorns
The Uniforme Chic de l'Académie can be bought at the Quester's Rest in the Alter of the Starry Skies book in Tickington
The Pirate King's Pendant can be obtained through post game story events
The Vest for Success can be found through the quest Richie's Rock-Hard Roulette Challenge (Octagonia)
I really hope this guide goes appreciated. If I missed anything or I got something wrong let me know. If the spoiler text is too much, let me know and I will remove it.

Feel Free To Use This or Share This Without Credit as I Just Want to Be Helpful!

I Hope You Enjoyed This Guide!

Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition demo is out! Here are some tips to prepare you for the journey ahead in what is one of my favourite JRPG

Hello! I have played every mainline Dragon Quest and while I did not expect much from DQXI at first, I was floored at the quality and the sheer strength that the game displays on many fronts to the point that it became one of my top 3 DQ games of all time!
Here are some tips for you to make the adventure as good as it gets. You can use most of these tips on the demo already, so experiment around!
Dragon Quest XI is a very well-tuned game in terms of convenience, in fact I haven't played a JRPG that gives such a host of conveniences and quality of life features the way DQXI does. Many people say it's traditional, but the way it makes the experience as painless and fluid as possible shows that there is a reason the series is still relevant today.

TIPS

------ PRESS X TO OPEN DRACONIAN QUEST WHEN NAMING YOUR CHARACTER TO GET EXTRA DIFFICULTY OPTIONS ------
You will not get the opportunity to activate them again. DQXI has a set of modifiers to make the game more challenging and let me tell you that it can get very challenging. If you live and die by difficulty in your JRPG, DQXI can get pretty up there. Much harder than Persona 5's own hard mode.
What if you want to try but not commit? The game allows you to drop one of the modifiers at every church or goddess' statue, but doing so is permanent.
I recommend at least "All Enemies Are Super Strong" which is the hard mode difficulty. The game can be pretty easy until the last third with normal difficulty, but this hard mode modifier gives a mean challenge for you to enjoy. Other cool modifiers are "Reduced experience from easy fights" preventing grinding and "No Shopping" meaning you have to craft your gear instead of buying it.
Other than that, there is nothing in the game where you have to 100% commit with no going back. Just don't forget to set this out in New Game
_____________________
That's pretty much all I can think of. DQXI is overall very approachable and you can get by very easily. You have a ton of option you can use to fine tune your experience and make it as good as possible. I definitely recommend this game as one of the best JRPGs on the system alongside Final Fantasy XII as it is a stunner and has some super cool characters to the point that I ended up tearing up that my adventures with them has ended.
Definitely give this game a chance if you can. I can vouch DQXI deserves all the praise it gets (and more)!

[DQXIS] Sharing a few things: Art Asset rips, Quest Catalogue text datamine, and item collection cataloguing (including 'missable' items)

I could've made this into multiple threads, but I just wanted to get this info shared cause I put it off for too long. So let's get it over with rapid fire.

Art Asset Rips

https://mega.nz/#F!CqhFhAjS!8jsDBgmSqAJBN2ZV4lxUsg
I wanted to do this the moment I saw the new artwork used for story battle dialog Basically, I extracted the packages and converted the UE4 assets into PNGs using Gildor's UE Viewer. Feel free to use them for your wikis or whatnot.
The folders are organized as such, please be cautious of spoilers if you haven't completed the game. Such as party member, monsters, or other stuff.
The next things I plan to rip are Casino related textures. That'd be cute to have.

Quest Catalogue Text Datamine

https://pastebin.com/C1RPGm8y
This is a quick one, but I extracted all the text used for all the quests in the catalogue as you go through them. Starting from when it's a "???" to "You completed!".
The reason I did this was cause no sites have transcribed it before. So again, it'd be nice if people used these for wiki entries or sites, so it can be complete like other games have for their quests (like an Elder Scrolls or Fallout site)
I had to correct some characters, and adjusted it accordingly. One quest name uses an en-dash (–), some entries uses an em-dash (—). And there were some entries that used single open/close apostrophes, so I did open/close quotes instead (“ ”).
I'll upload a PC equivalent later, the only differences are there's no Tickington quests, and the Mister Vista quest has different entries.

3D Mode Item Locations

PS4/PC Item Locations: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a7z69cda951fo15/AADXLD6_iW2DTUketS6Pb15Pa?dl=0
Switch Item Locations: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r0c8jnhsfaiou7v/AAAOQqaSi8xyCQx7TuAhXNl1a?dl=0
So I'm nearly done with Act 2, but this is my third playthrough, and I've completed Act 3. Before I've catalogued every since item location while following the Japanese PS4 Guide Book. This is for those that want to collect EVERYTHING in the game, so Erik's Nose for Treasure doesn't give any more loot to find.
It's organized by type of region (towns, overworld, etc). First screenshot is me using Noah's Archive/Nose for Treasure to see the item count for each map area, then collecting it. Each location may have notes detailing specific things about treasures. The Switch folder notes may have out of date info from the change, so I need to clean that up here and there.
The Switch folder may randomly disappear, that's because I'm updating it, and it's easier to wipe and copy/paste my working folder, which is separate from Dropbox.
Switch folder is basically complete now.
I have a thread on GameFAQs with others talking about it too.

List of 'Missable' Items

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UMR8kDZWWJAwIkBNiJrwgRVy2MtdYbtfjYKmoYWHdrE/edit?usp=sharing
So the items listed doesn't mean they can't be gotten elsewhere, it's just that specific pot or barrel or whatever can't be looted again. This also is for those that want to be true completionists, and not want to miss anything.
I structured it so it goes by Acts, and spaced out each section to help avoid spoilers. And I don't go into too much detail as to why it's missable or why other things aren't. Trust me on that.
There's actually one potentially permanently missable key item from Tickington. The "Champion's Code" book. It can only be gotten during the "Mother Knows Best" quest from the old man in DQ3 world, Erdrick's Future Home". It doesn't count towards the Item List, but you can't collect it if the quest is completed. Unless there's a bookshelf where it could be alternatively collected, in which case, please let me know (with a screenshot).
---
Okay that should be everything. Now it's time for dinner and for me to finish Act 2. Game beaten. :)

DRAGON QUEST XI is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits - Excluding infinite money - (A parody by a fan)

Hello there ladies and gentlemen I'm defiantly not The Spiffing Brit though i am a fellow Brit and a fan and today you join me in the long running series of Dragon Quest for Dragon Quest XI. That's right its that game series in japan published by Square Enix that is even bigger then Final Fantasy that no one else outside of it cared about till now. Or until the Hero joined smash, one or the other.
So today ladies and gentlemen we are going to be looking at how you will never need to worry about money again. First things first we'll make our way through the game till we get to a fantastic little place called Puerto Valor, now this lovely little town is home to a lovely little beach but more importantly its also home to the games first casino and if you know anything about video games ladies and gentlemen then you know there are always ways to make them work for you.
Now this casino in particular has three different kinds of games you can play here, slot machines, poker and slime quest. All three games are available on each side of the room, with poker in the centre, slots against the wall and slime quest in between and as you can see each different area is coloured green blue or purple/red. These determine the amount you bet and in turn how big the pay out is, right now red is unavailable and wont be until later in the game.
Naturally to play any of these we are going to need chips and you can only get them through buying them for 20G a piece and they cant be cashed out directly. (directly being the key word here)
Now the games themselves are rather interesting with there own little extra mechanics but thats not what we are here for ladies and gentlemen so instead we are just going to play normally until we have a few thousand tokens under our name and skip forward to the second casino.
Aha! i caught you at the mid point where you least suspected it i shall use this chance to remind you to keep yourself hydrated with a nice refreshing cup of Yorkshire tea and subscribe to TheSpiffingBrit before he marches into your home under the orders of the Queen herself to throw all of your coffee into the nearest harbour in an act of ironic revenge.
And Here we are everyone at the second casino (For the record i am going to keep the location of the second casino a secret so as to not spoil all you fine folk but trust me when i say you will not be able to miss it) and whats this? roulette tables and the red is open? well well ladies and gentlemen it looks like we are about to clean house.
You see roulette is an interesting game, as provided you have enough to start with then you will always snowball into a fortune if you follow these steps: Bet 200 on all three rows so you have every number covered and one more on the treasure spot, with this you have made it so no matter where the ball lands you will always win, some of you may be asking why not just to red and black with the chest and while you can do that it it much faster to simply hold left or right to scroll to one side and move over to the other with a single button press, then shimmy your way down to the side then bottom. Each spin takes 800 and you win 600, effectively loosing 200 each spin however if you keep this up something curious will happen.
Why yes there it is, we just hit a jackpot, a jackpot is when the number the ball lands on is a number you picked and also span round to the top of the roulette wheel. By covering every space, we ensure that if a potential jackpot ever happens we ensure it will always payout and this nets us a tidy little profit of about one million tokens.
Now thats great and all but as i said earlier, we cant cash these tokens out directly into money. However what we can do is exchange them for prizes and the prizes of the second casino are substantially better then that of the first.
Disappointingly there is no tea set available as a prize but there is this rather nifty looking whip that is the strongest in the game and whats this? a sages elixir? well now ladies and gentlemen this is what we are after. You see the elixir is a very nifty little item that restores all MP and heals a bit as well but thats not what we want it for, its also worth 750g which is nothing to sniff at, but it gets even better when you consider how cheap they are in terms of medals, one elixir only costs us 1000 medals , meaning with the jackpot we can get ourselves quite afew of these bad boys and sell them off, and should we need anymore we simply repeat the roulette method untill we hit another jackpot.
And there we have it ladies and gentlemen, if you enjoyed this exploit parody and if you would like to see it again then lets see if we can get to about oooh i dont know about ten thousand upvotes?
Anyway a huge thank you to anyone who actualy took the time to read this and naturally to The Spiffing Brit himself.

I did the math. Poker is rigged -- in your favor.

TL;DR: Always double down at least once.
Poker is the fastest way to make money in the Dragon Quest XI casino by far. I made over 250K one evening, after having started with less than 500 credits invested. I've made ~350K total so far and don't really have a need to gamble more at the moment. So how is poker rigged?
In a 54 card deck -- 52 regular cards, 2 jokers -- there's a 51.85% chance of winning at a hand of double or nothing. I noticed myself almost always winning on the first hand of double or nothing, so I just counted how many times I won vs. lost on the first double or nothing. (I ignore draws and count chests as successes.) (I also may be wrong in assuming there are 2 jokers, as I've never seen 2 in play at once ever, which means the chance of winning should be 50.94%.)
Out of 50 first hands of double or nothing in a row: 37 wins and 13 losses. That's a 74% win rate, well over the expected 51.85% chance. I doubt this is the only odd in your favor, but even if this were the only behind the scenes number fudging, this alone would guarantee players being net positive over time.
My guess: the game fudges and lets you win double or nothing 75% of the time, not 50% or 51.85% of the time, and not on just the first double or nothing, but on every hand of double or nothing. This is why I've managed to win up to 7 hands in a row of double or nothing, and net 350K starting from only 500 while never having gotten an initial hand better than a straight flush.
FWIW: I don't know if selecting a specific card placement matters, but for purposes of this test, I 100% always picked the right-most of the 4 card locations.

MAME 0.191

MAME 0.191

It’s the end of October, and time for the hotly anticipated MAME 0.191 release. This release includes an experimental Hitachi SH3 recompiler from frequent contributor David “Haze” Haywood that shows promising performance improvements for Cave CV-1000 emulation, and holds the tantalising possibility of bringing similar gains to systems based on the SH4 in the future (including Sega NAOMI). Bug fixes to the Saturn/ST-V emulation will enhance your enjoyment of numerous Sega titles from the ’90s. There have also been some optimisations and improvements to MIPS3 and Voodoo emulation, as used in a number of 3D arcade systems.
For fans of systems more often experienced at home, David Haywood also rewrote most of the Gamate emulation, taking it from mostly broken to (hopefully) best-in-class. We’ve also got some important bug fixes for the Tatung Einstein, the NEC PC-Engine console, and the M6809 CPU used by the Tandy CoCo family (among other things). Three more Tiger handhelds have been added for this release, namely Batman, Judge Dredd, and Swamp Thing. The hard limit of four emulated screens has been lifted, allowing you to plug in more video cards, more serial terminals, or just emulate systems that just have lots of screens.
We’ve got some big updates to the software lists this month, with plenty of Apple II cassettes, RM Nimbus software, and over seventy new PlayStation dumps. BBC Torch floppies and Gamate cartridges are now considered working, and Kiki Inland for Gamate has been added. A number of titles that don’t require a PC/AT have been moved from the IBM 5170 list to the IBM 5150 list. There are also some nice additions to the IBM PC and Fujitsu FM Towns software.
Of course, there are lots more bug fixes and newly dumped versions of emulated games. You can get the source/Windows binaries from the download page and start emulating.
