Hey all! This is my first post on the DQ subreddit and XI:S is my first ever Dragon Quest game. Absolutely love it so far and I'll post my thoughts on it once I progress more in the story.
I'm currently at Puerto Valor and I'm wondering if any of the prizes are worth it. I've never liked casino minigames in video games (thanks Pokémon), so I really don't want to go through the hassle if I can avoid it.
submitted by Hello there ladies and gentlemen I'm defiantly not The Spiffing Brit though i am a fellow Brit and a fan and today you join me in the long running series of Dragon Quest for Dragon Quest XI. That's right its that game series in japan published by Square Enix that is even bigger then Final Fantasy that no one else outside of it cared about till now. Or until the Hero joined smash, one or the other.
So today ladies and gentlemen we are going to be looking at how you will never need to worry about money again. First things first we'll make our way through the game till we get to a fantastic little place called Puerto Valor, now this lovely little town is home to a lovely little beach but more importantly its also home to the games first casino and if you know anything about video games ladies and gentlemen then you know there are always ways to make them work for you.
Now this casino in particular has three different kinds of games you can play here, slot machines, poker and slime quest. All three games are available on each side of the room, with poker in the centre, slots against the wall and slime quest in between and as you can see each different area is coloured green blue or purple/red. These determine the amount you bet and in turn how big the pay out is, right now red is unavailable and wont be until later in the game.
Naturally to play any of these we are going to need chips and you can only get them through buying them for 20G a piece and they cant be cashed out directly. (directly being the key word here)
Now the games themselves are rather interesting with there own little extra mechanics but thats not what we are here for ladies and gentlemen so instead we are just going to play normally until we have a few thousand tokens under our name and skip forward to the second casino.
Aha! i caught you at the mid point where you least suspected it i shall use this chance to remind you to keep yourself hydrated with a nice refreshing cup of Yorkshire tea and subscribe to TheSpiffingBrit before he marches into your home under the orders of the Queen herself to throw all of your coffee into the nearest harbour in an act of ironic revenge.
And Here we are everyone at the second casino (For the record i am going to keep the location of the second casino a secret so as to not spoil all you fine folk but trust me when i say you will not be able to miss it) and whats this? roulette tables and the red is open? well well ladies and gentlemen it looks like we are about to clean house.
You see roulette is an interesting game, as provided you have enough to start with then you will always snowball into a fortune if you follow these steps:
Bet 200 on all three rows so you have every number covered and one more on the treasure spot, with this you have made it so no matter where the ball lands you will always win, some of you may be asking why not just to red and black with the chest and while you can do that it it much faster to simply hold left or right to scroll to one side and move over to the other with a single button press, then shimmy your way down to the side then bottom. Each spin takes 800 and you win 600, effectively loosing 200 each spin however if you keep this up something curious will happen.
Why yes there it is, we just hit a jackpot, a jackpot is when the number the ball lands on is a number you picked and also span round to the top of the roulette wheel. By covering every space, we ensure that if a potential jackpot ever happens we ensure it will always payout and this nets us a tidy little profit of about one million tokens.
Now thats great and all but as i said earlier, we cant cash these tokens out directly into money. However what we can do is exchange them for prizes and the prizes of the second casino are substantially better then that of the first.
Disappointingly there is no tea set available as a prize but there is this rather nifty looking whip that is the strongest in the game and whats this? a sages elixir? well now ladies and gentlemen this is what we are after. You see the elixir is a very nifty little item that restores all MP and heals a bit as well but thats not what we want it for, its also worth 750g which is nothing to sniff at, but it gets even better when you consider how cheap they are in terms of medals, one elixir only costs us 1000 medals , meaning with the jackpot we can get ourselves quite afew of these bad boys and sell them off, and should we need anymore we simply repeat the roulette method untill we hit another jackpot.
