harrah's new orleans casino poker room - win

Small story - what goes up must come down

So at the beginning of this last summer I was in a bad spot. Been using heavily with no break for about a year and a half this run (10 year plus user here IV heroin all in the southeast so ECP raw no stamps) and also had started on methadone about two months before all this but only 60mg/day.
I thought it was bullshit they wouldnt raise my methadone bc I failed all my drug tests but never for benzos just weed meth sometimes coke and dope of course. But starting at 30mg and having to wait two weeks to start the process to raise my dose up 5mg at a time...basically I just never got to dose that made me comfortable - yes my fault for using - but what's a junkie gonna do when he's not well like he should be...especially paying 100 cash a week
Anyways...terrible habit check. Separated from gf of 8 years check. Jobless check. Homeless check.
Literally had a backpack with my clothes in it and I would crash with friends when I could. I live in new orleans so I would run the streets all hours of the nights - developed a taste for meth so everything seemed normal. The speed also turned me into a compulsive poker machine gambler and I had a bad habit of somehow going from broke penniless to hustling up 100s of dollars to broke again from gambling in a couple hours.
I had a lose everything gambling night late Sunday night into Monday morning. Had a little breakdown and had a friend drive me around to detoxes....went to three diff places and got on all their lists but it would take a week to get a bed.
My buddy drops me off at the top of bourbon street. I have no money. I'm getting dopesick. All my possessions which are a bunch of dirty clothes really at this point are in a backpack on my back. I'm dirty I haven't showered in days. Probably been up all weekend, atleast 48 hours no sleep because well I have no bed. The love of my life my fiance isnt speaking to me. I'm tired dirty broke sick heartbroken crashing. I wanted to die. I thought about throwing myself off overpasses or somehow coming up with the probably million dollars id need to do a shot that would kill me.
I wind up bumping into this old man I knew from a couple years ago and he gave me 50 bucks. I went and spent 25 at my dopeman and had to pay him 10 i owed him (owed well over 100 so 10 aint so bad). Then I had 15 bucks. And nothing to lose.
I meet up with this wanna be tranny named after a popular Mexican pop star diva who is basically a dude who just talks and dresses like a chick but will sometimes rock a beard with it all its a trip. He likes me but he knows I dont get down like that but still whines about it so much that I refuse to crash on his couch even when my only other option is a park bench. We have a bond over poker machines and meth. His rent is due and he says he needs 600 or hell be evicted. Lost all his money gambling. He does meth but not like TONS and we get along because I do it moderately as well so it never turns into a tweak bender. We gamble. And its time to do that.
I have 15 bucks and he has maybe ten. In Nola every bar has 2 or 3 video poker machines where u bet from .25 cents to 4 dollars and can win max 2000 dollars with a royal flush. The other games are just chasing a flush or 5 of a kind the whole time. Michelangelo is my favorite. You hit a button 5 cards come up you hold the ones u want and press a button again if u get 5 spades for example a bonus round happens and you win money. Depending on what you bet. Typically lets say u put ten dollars in. You get 40 credits. You bet 2 credits aka 50 cents and you have 20 hands. You really just want a flush so you sit there just hitting the button hoping a flush comes up.
I turn my 15 into a hundred. Loan my friend a few bucks. He loses it. He wants to change bars and try another machine. I'm hesitant but do. We get to the bar and I put 20 in and hit for 650. Woot woot. We go get a meth sack and stash the cash at his place. I loan him a few more dollars and I take 100 or so to the next bar. Its 4am on a Tuesday so we wind up in a gay bar that's open and I get on a machine and hit for 750. TWICE. I let my friend gamble and he makes enough to pay me back and he wins a few hundred as well. We go back to his place its 9am or so at this point we do some more tweak I buy some dope life is good. I have about 1800 at this point and I'm like ok dudes lets go to the casino. He is like no and u better not go blah blah blah.
Harrahs casino is right across the street from bourbon street almost and is nice but I ALWAYS lose my money there. I swear it off every time I leave. I walked there alone. 9am everyone is going about their business all nice looking. I have been up going on 3 days now. I'm haggard looking but smiling.
I get into harrahs and pick a machine and started in on that motherfucker. A chinese themed slot machine where as you bet a bowl of fortune cookies fills up and when it does you hit a bonus round and you have like 5 levels of prizes from 5 dollars at the bottom to 10500 at the top. After putting 350 in the machine I hit the bonus round and won my first jackpot of 10500. 9400 cash after taxes. I still had 1500 or so from earlier.
Its important to understand my mind state at this time. I was at my bottom just hours before. I mean I wanted to die. I was alone. Strung OUT. I was (and am) at this horrible part of dope addiction no one tells you about where after years and years of this shit u just...don't really get high anymore. It's just staying well. Theres exactly nothing to look forward to. And its sad because you know your chasing a feeling thats long gone. Sure if you detox and then relapse you get high but as soon as you slide into your normal habit its just...it sucks. Staying well becomes a full time job. Hell people I work around and know dont even realise I'm a addict because they never see me seemingly intoxicated. And I am doing big shots of good shit. No itching besides the initial pins n needles. No nods. No euphoria. This is why people start smoking crack and doing other drugs because you may shoot 100 worth of dope but you still feel sober. Pretty much. Sober enough that the pain you are trying to escape from is still right there. Your life is ruined from this thing but now you cant hide anymore. So you start chasing crack. Some people drink. Some tweak. Whatever. Make room for another monkey. Theres always room for more.
So here I am with over 10 grand. Theres so much I want to do. I'm homeless. Needing clothes. Need everything. The first thing I do is rub it in everyones face who gave me shit for gambling all those times I lost it all. I had to reach out to my girl. We split majorly because id do some speed at work and when id get off at 3 id be drawn to the poker machine and instead of being on my way home id spend all my money. That happened a lot. Id win half the time tho. Usually doubling what money i started with.
I gave the money to my friend who drove me to try and get into detox. Real religious no drugs kinda guy. Not smart to be walking around with all that.
I needed housing. To pay a ticket to have my license back. I needed to pay a lawyer out of state to pick up a 3 year old 4 count heroin sales charge I was running from. I wanted to get clean. I wanted to do crazy shit like buy an oz of raw and some hookers and stay at the Ritz and blah blah. But I made my friend hold it all, only getting a few hundo at a time as I needed it.
I spent 5k in the first week and he gave me all my money back because he was tired of me showinf up 5x a day to blow my money a few hundred at a time.
I saw the dark side of people I thought were my friends. Not like brother type friends but my boys id run the streets with. Everyone wanted a piece. They all expected something.
Exactly 7 days after I won the money I walked into harrahs again with 3500 on me and within 30 mins security pounced on me and arrested me for my out of state warrant. When I won the jackpot I had to sign a tax form and I'm sure it showed I was wanted. The next time I came and signed in they were right on me.
Now I'm sitting in OPP with no bond facing extradition. Coming off a heroic binge and the methadone was still in my system. After 16 days NC came and picked me up and that's a whole nother story but still sick I was shackled hands and feet in the back of a van with 9 other dudes for 3 days at a time TWICE. Finally get to NC and wound up basically beating my case. Plead to a misd and time served after 60 days.
When you are up. Your up. When your down it hurts. But every dog has his day. Just know if you are suffering today eventually your gonna swing back up.

Casino Industry

My boyfriend and I️ may be moving to New Orleans soon. He is currently working as a card dealer at a poker room. We’ve looked online and it appears that Harrah’s is only hiring on-call dealers. Boomtown does appear to be hiring dealers. Does anyone here work in the casino industry? We would be okay with him working part-time, but best case scenario he would be working a position with benefits. Appreciate any information you could provide!
